cannon river winery
This all starts over a year ago… I got an email blast from a local liquor store saying that the Cannon River Winery was having several weekends of volunteer grape picking. I immediately emailed to see if there was anything available for a specific weekend and no such luck. So I added my name to their email list and shazam … it’s already 2010. Still not sure where it went, but I managed to get a ‘reservation’ for grape picking for a weekend in September.
It turned out to be one of the coldest and wettest weekends they had had for picking, but it was still oodles of fun. The best part? We got to eat off the vines as we worked! It was so awesome!! And of course the wine tasting that followed our hard labor was enjoyed as well. I believe we picked about 4 tons of grapes {mmm i could be wrong on that figure} and then we got to watch them get de-stemmed and sucked into a tube to sit in a tin can and ferment… And that’s just the layman’s gist of things. I promise it’s a lot more glorious than I have described.
We arrived on Saturday morning to a lovely hilly winery where we all received a bit of background information on the vineyard itself as well as what we were going to be doing that morning. 4 hours of picking led to a lovely lunch and some delicious wine tasting, which inspired us to check out their store in downtown Cannon Falls.
What fun!! Thanks Mel for wandering around letting me take pictures, being my model, holding my grapes and picking up those bundles that just wouldn’t stay put. You rock! Dad, as always I appreciate you indulging my plans and my to-dos… Now let’s drink wine!!
not old … but classic
As I sit here trying to come up with descriptive words for Spencer I am stuck on ‘turkey stealer’ and ‘glass breaking tail…’
Spence has been a staple at Nelson family events for years and years, and a fun dog to run and play with. He is a black lab that has one heck of a happy {and dangerous} tail and a taste for all things people food. Seriously – I bet he would eat a salad if he knew it came from the table.
Fast forward to present day and we find Spence relaxing in retirement at his Duluth home. Spence used to be a truckin’ fool and traveled all around this country with his truckin’ mama Pat. And now? He relaxes on the living room rug eating bon-bons watching Animal Planet. What a life …
Well Spence, keep on howlin buddy! But maybe a tic-tac would make people listen closer? Just a suggestion… Thanks Caren and Pat! Your pups are bundles of fun!!
good lookin family
… so even though I have gobs and gobs of photos to post before I’m officially caught up to these few, I just can’t wait.
Sorry family. Sorry kitties. Sorry camping. Sorry weddings. These guys are too cute…
… seriously. this is my favorite.
Thanks Curtis family for letting me wander around the farm with you!! It’s always a treat and your little guy is so much fun. Can’t wait to share the other pictures from the day.
Phew …And I’m spent!! I am just swimming in pictures to edit and post, but my eyes are drooping and my mind is dreaming of fluffy clouds, warm tea and some amazing PJs. My kitties are likely already taking over the bed, which I must say is impressive for 2 kittens. And Mur is sleeping on the living room floor while ‘watching’ football. And its 9:30. Two words: rock.stars.
Go Twins Go!
Murray and I had the great fortune to go to a Minnesota Twins baseball game about a month back. The whole event was great – riding the bus downtown, the stadium, the food, the game, the pint glass an wandering around after.
One of the coolest things I saw was the Kirby Pucket image inlayed in the wood behind the bar. FANCY!
And we got to try one of the Murray’s steak sandwiches which is one the new signature food items at the stadium. It was NUM-MY! It even came with a piece of their signature garlic toast. Quite fancy ball park food, if you ask me.
… So in the end, we had a great time and I got to check another item off my 2010 to-do list
