in our down time

… when we have moments to just sit and relax, we typically hang out on the living room rug. The girls love the scratchy-IKEA-ness of the rug in here. It screams cat scratching post – that and my jeans. But you know what doesn’t have that aura about it is the custom made kitty scratching post Mur whipped up. Nah, that is just for show.

And that’s a random update for you with some kitty eye-candy. Happy Friday!

the ‘wild’ life

These girls love our little porch – which we lovingly call ‘The Square.’ If you haven’t been on the square, it is tiny. We put our plants out there when the weather got nice and I honestly was swapping out our biggest plant any time we wanted to sit on the square due to potential weight restrictions and size constraints. Yep, that small.

But the kitties love the height, the sights and the jungle the rest of the plants offer. IMG_4782

… our little garden has become a bit more foresty in the weeks since these pictures were taken yet the girls still love it. Digi took a bit of a leap off the square, so we are limiting their time on the square to when they are in a more tired-mellow mood vs the crazy-i-want-to-wrassle sort of mood.

It’s amazing how big they’ve gotten since even these photos were taken! I’d say since I got them them 2 months ago, they have doubled in size. They are still the most adorable kittens ever (no contest) and I’m still figuring out their little personalities and moods – totally loving it. But the one change I would be totally ok with is them calming down at bed time. Sheesh! We are just big play things when we are at their level regardless of if it’s 3pm or 3am. And even that has changed a bit from the beginning. I’d say they are out of their toddler stage and have moved into their teenage stage. So far they don’t hate me so I must be doing something right.

K girls – let’s get down with our bad selves and go chilax on the square with an icy beverage.

sooooo big!

Before time gets away from me, like it usually does, I wanted to put together a small batch of photos from my BRIEF time in California at Sequoia and Kings Canon National Park. It has already been over a week since I was there, but a week in my time is like I returned yesterday to most people.

I happened to be on a work trip to California and after putting in an 9 hour day (starting at 4am) we took off to see the sights in the mountains near Fresno. What we found was nothing short of amazing…

… the trees were huge! I had been to Muir woods before and seen the redwoods outside San Fran before, but these had more height to them. And the drive was really beautiful. I love how the landscape and the greenery changes so dramatically with elevation.

I’ve personally never been in the drivers seat in the mountains so that was a fun experience. At times I felt like the road would never unwind. Coming down was by far the best part. My worry about running out of gas was a thing of the past as soon as we started back down the mountain. Pretty sure I coasted the entire 30 miles and 4000+ft of elevation.

It’s a bit hard to grasp the scale of these trees so even though these people are random, I did include a photo with a few (below) just so you can see what we’re talking about here. GIGANTIC! And sadly, all the huge trees were behind fence posts so I couldn’t show my love with a big ‘ol hug. A missed photo op, for sure.

Then we cruised up an even more curvy single lane road – the kind of road where you pee your pants when you encounter a car from the other direction – but once we got to the top we saw this… quite a view!!!

Can’t wait to make it back again to do and see more than what a quick 2hr crash course has to offer.

my saturday night

… after a day filled with quite a bit of eating and kitty snuggling, I’ve sat down at my computer to do something I haven’t done in what feels like a long while – just do what I want to do for how long I want to do it. I am catching up on some of my favorite blogs I have neglected to read since February + work promotion. And you know, it really makes me want to go pick up my camera, grab my kitties and some sunshine and have a hay day. Or walk out to a park, find a nice family, and see if I can take some photos for them. Kinda creepy, maybe. But in the end, it would be an incredibly happy experience!

But I find myself right back in that same orange chair in the corner of my living room hoping that inspiration is there in the morning when I wake up. The girls are well past asleep … not even sure where they are camped out. My usual ‘senior portrait model’ crashed even before ice cream, so he’s out of the running. And this isn’t really feeling like a self-portrait vibe.

Tomorrow is Sunday which sounds so lovely. It would be better if it was Saturday but I can deal. The fact that my only plan is to go to one store tomorrow makes me excited. I just want to relax and do nuttin I don’t want to do.

I can feel a storm rolling. Sleeping tonight will be pleasant, making sleeping in even more lovely. The kitties will join in around 6am and I can’t wait. They are really good at snuggling.
