weddings are big!
That is my overall statement from going to 2 weddings of late. I think they are fabulous affairs that quite clearly take tons of man hours (and $$) to put on. No, I’m not so naive to have never know this in the past, its just that the weddings I attended previous to these I was less interested in the snazy accoutrements than the clothes I was wearing or food I was eating or awkward relatives I was avoiding. I also have never played a role in any weddings and even though my roles in these were so minor, and completed welllll before the wedding day, I still appreciate all the work that goes into these days. Kudos! And my ratings of the last two weddings? Two thumbs up! Tons of pretty stuff and Tons of fun (and oh yeah, Tons of wine!)
You may remember Andy and Nicole from a previous post and these photos.

Their lovely wedding was the second of 2 and was last weekend (the 8th, not the 11th as the invitation proclaimed). It was loads of fun! The ceremony was beautiful, the vows were loving yet goofy, the food was delicious and the party was excellent! Both were held at the same venue in North Liberty, IA which was really a fun space to dance and take pictures. Now as I have proclaimed, wedding photography is not in my bag of tricks and I don’t really plan to make it so. BUT Nicole and Andy asked if I would casually take photos of the reception and aside from loving those guys, I am not known for turning down opportunities to tote around my camera equip. Here is my sneak peak of photos from their wedding.

Another fun treat was getting to the wedding and signing the guest book that I photographed for and designed for them. I even noticed others looking at all the photos (woot!) After I got the book back I took photos of it to keep in my little folder of “cool things I’ve made.” I hope to get the opportunity to make another, they are fun!

Being without a computer is really getting on my nerves (yes – going on 1 month) so all I’ve got to post really are just sneak peaks. No time, No computer, No internet. Yikes! Soon though, I can feel it.
Next up? Lucy and Penny!
tuesday already?
Sheesh. Another Tuesday come and gone. And I still have not caught up from last week. I keep trying to come up with lists of stuff I want to get done because oh boy, am I a list person. When in doubt, I make a list. That having been said, I am having list block! I am having troubles keeping it all in one spot, is what I decided. I found a grocery list on the backside of an order form from work {which even thoughyou don’t know the ins-outs of my job, you can understand that that is not where they should be kept} and I’ve found lists scribbled on the backsides or recipts {often after they are covered in coffee grounds in my trash}. I have a lot of shopping things to write down that I think once are written down will clear my brain to retain all the other things that need to be stored up there. I had something like that happen the other night. I was trying to fall asleep and had a few things I wanted to get done in the morning before work. I made a mental note about two different things {both totally uninteresting at this point} but then all of a sudden, a third popped in there. Whoa, three was way too many to remember through the night so I had to get up and write things down. Anyways – maybe more organization is just what I need! Yeah, that’s it. I’m not organized enough. Maybe I also need a new fun gadget/shelf/book/pen to get me organized. I saw these killer shelves at Ikea. And I’ve been craving this book from Kolo. And I could probably find something equally important and necessary on Etsy to round things out.
And even though I tried and tried, I am at a loss for a creative segue from the dock at the Cabin into Barrett photos … so with no muss and no fuss, here they are.You two look so playful and happy!
look at his little belly!
… and look at his little faux-hawk! too cute!
Barrett is one of those kids that is hard to get a bad picture of. And what’s great is that he still is loving the reflection in the camera lens.

… and another final TTV for the evening. It just makes everything look so interesting! Oh the fun I will have.
And now I’m off to tackle some list somewhere. Wish me luck.
real quick…
since i’ve been super busy this week and haven’t had my typical nightly computer time i haven’t gotten my planned post complete. BUT i couldn’t resist this photo.
Last weekend when I was in Iowa, little baby Barrett (you may remember from here when he was just a little sprout) is now moving onward and upward! He sits up and ‘scoots’ and sure does love the beach. We had a little photo shoot at the beach and in the yard and in my limited spare time this week I have ‘beautifyied’ just a few photos. This one, I think, hands down, has become my most favorite new photo! Can’t you just see the little model in him whipping around and giving me the ‘cute pouty’ look? Anyways, that’s my tiny sneak-peak of little Barrett photos. Stay tuned – there’s more to come!
i love new stuff
Over the weekend I felt like I got things accomplished. I made a Costco run on Saturday which involved getting a step stool to reach the highest parts of my kitchen and ceiling fan cords, gobs and gobs of granola bars and I partook in purchasing 16 chicken breasts.
Mmm I do love costco.
On Sunday I did a little work in my dad’s backyard clearing our future garden. It was hard work but neat to see the results. We will have veggies next year, I can feel it!
…BUT the most exciting thing of the weekend? My discovery of this technique…

I took this photo this morning on my porch. Very little was done in Photoshop to manipulate the image. So how does it look this cool, do you ask? It is a technique called TTV (through the viewfinder). When I stumbled upon it I could not make heads/tails of it because I didn’t really understand the concept of a twin lens reflex camera. I am a one lens reflex kinda girl, always have been. So what is with this two lens stuff? I just couldn’t wrap my head around how it works, but it is all crystal clear now.
“Through the Viewfinder photography (TtV) is defined as taking a picture of any subject through the viewfinder of any camera with another camera.” Huh? Yeah. I suspect it is clear as mud for you right now, too. But really, in essence, you take the photograph with your SLR camera {or any other camera} by looking through the view finder of the twin lens reflex. Anyways – I’m not great at typing this out and explaining it and it really requires a visual to understand it {i think} which is accessible from here and here. After seeing what other people have done with it, I feel like it is going to be a challenge to make a ‘bad’ photo from this. The look of these is something that I really love and I have been dapling in it with the tools of Photoshop, but doing it ‘au-natural’ is even better.
Well I must say that this technique has given me new inspiration and creative juice. I am super excited to practice this more and I think this would be an awesome thing to work into my sessions. Oh, I’m in love. And the best thing? My dad’s ENORMOUS collection of cameras contained 3 … yes, 3 Twin Lens Reflex cameras ready for me to use. Horay! I am headed to IA for the weekend for really endless amounts of fun! Wine/Food tonight, Hog Roast tomorrow and Wonderful Wedding on Saturday. Oof! I’ve got me new camera set up but I don’t know how much it will be broken out. Either way, I should have fun stuff to post when I get back.
Have a great July weekend!!
